Another busy 3 months with more regular volunteer sessions and a lot more to come!
Our massive annual homeless initiative ran this ¼ and saw quite a few vanloads of winter clothes, backpacks, sleeping bags etc headed to the Avalon Centre who distribute to those most in need.
The amazing team at TOP REMOVALS helped us deliver 300 of our 400 strong backpacks for the homeless which has our community pitching in & packing around 16,000 items this year!
Thanks to the generosity of ARK TARPS, we had a large delivery of brand new Australia grade sleeping bags which were distributed to Avalon & BayCISS.
July saw our 1st large community event, Xmas in July, held at Brighton Town Hall. It was a fun filled night hosted by PURPLE SOUP who got the crowds into party mode from the start! We were fortunate to have loads of amazing donations from the community including decorations and prizes galore. Special thanks to Yuri Perez at PY PHOTO for his sensational photos and VISUAL STATEMENTS for the amazing Xmas tree decorations . We also extend our gratitude to Deputy Mayor Alex Del Porto and his wife Donna, Zoe Daniel MP, Ryan Batchelor MP, David Southwick MP and his wife Hayley, Brad Rowswell MP, and the Hon Tim Wilson for their support, presence and vocal talents!
BayCISS & Grace Heart Community Church also had deliveries of food aid & hundreds of shopping bags through the ¼ ,and thanks to funds raised at Xmas in July fundraiser we also gave $2,000 each to BayCISS & Grace Heart Community Church to purchase fresh produce for people they help with food.
A volunteer session was held with students of ST FINBARS who made 200 toiletry packs & rolled up hundreds of rugs in readiness for our aged care initiative. We were also announced as finalists in Keep Australia Beautiful's Tidy Town awards.
Aid relief went out to Mums Supporting Families in Need, Cavalry Care Brighton and dozens of fiddle rugs to Monash health for their dementia & Alzheimer's patients. A van load of aid also went to VACCA to help with domestic violence & homeless and 120 counselling packs went to Windana (formerly Taskforce). 2nd Chance Cat Rescue & Peninsula Donations also received animal aid.
We received some amazing donations from Alex who held a cup cake stall to raise $50 for us (& thanks to her Mums for their help), and also to YARRA YARRA GOLD CLUB and CWA BAYSIDE. Bulk knitted items were donated by U3A BAYSIDE KNITTERS and the BLACK ROCK CROCHET GROUP, bulk toiletry bags came in from LILLY & DASH, ANNA bought in a van load of new linen that has gone to domestic violence and homeless organisations, and Maria and the team at DENTAL CARE CARNEGIE donated a huge carload of dental goods which we dearly needed.
Grants were won at GLEN EIRA and BAYSIDE COUNCILS for aid relief currently underway and The People First Community Lottery raised $4,446!
We were invited to talk to students at Mentone Girls Secondary school & took along Janet from BayCISS who spoke on the situation and aid relief for people in need in the community. We also received a donation bin for recycled containers at the recycle depot in South Rd Moorabbin which is a huge support. We also continue to accept recycled mobile phones, prescription glasses.
Thank you to everyone who donated directly or through our community donation stations! Every item counts and truly makes a difference in someone’s life. Your generosity helps us support those in need and brings a little bit of relief to their day. We appreciate your kindness!
