​As a volunteer-run charity, we have certain rules, policies and procedures in place to help protect the safety, privacy and dignity of our volunteers, donors and the people we support. These guidelines ensure that everyone is treated with respect and that our services are provided in a safe, fair and responsible manner.
Why Do Some Items Need To Be New?
For certain types of donations, we can only accept new items. This is particularly important when items are being provided directly to people in vulnerable or crisis situations.
Opened products could be tampered with or contaminated, posing serious health risks. Many regulations exist to protect consumers from unsafe products, & passing on used toiletries often violates these rules.
Hygiene & Personal Care Items
For health and safety reasons, we cannot accept opened or used toiletries and personal care products.

Once a product has been opened or used, we cannot know how it has been stored, handled or whether it has been contaminated. This is particularly important for products such as creams, lotions, cosmetics and other personal care items that come into direct contact with someone's skin. Passing them on could expose recipients to potential infections or allergic reactions.
Items for Children Fleeing Domestic Violence
This is about much more than simply having something clean and unused. Children leaving a crisis situation may have had to leave almost everything they know behind. Receiving something new that is specifically for them can provide a small but meaningful sense of comfort, normality, ownership and dignity at an incredibly difficult time.

We primarily request items for school-aged children, as this reflects the needs we receive most often. In almost six years, we have received only one request for baby items.
Please Help Us Keep Donations Safe for Everyone
To make things easier and safer for our volunteers, please:

Put heavy items into smaller bags where possible. Some bags are simply too heavy for our volunteers to safely lift and carry.

Only donate items that are clean, complete and in good condition.

Check that toys are safe, clean and have no missing or broken parts.

Our Ongoing Donation Initiatives

Prescription Glasses
We are always open to donations of old prescription glasses for both adults, and children alike. Your generous contributions will help individuals in crisis with vision impairment.
Please note: we collect just the prescription glasses, not the cases.
10¢ Recyclables
We’d love your 10c recyclables! Instead of tossing your bottles and cans, why not put them to good use.
Take your eligible bottles and cans to any recycling depot in your area. Use our code at the machine or provide it

Old Mobile Phones
We’re proud to be an official partner of DV Safe Phone, a registered charity that refurbishes donated phones and supplies them to domestic violence survivors.
A working mobile phone can mean independence, and a crucial connection to emergency services, support, and loved ones.​
iPhone 6 and newer models, as well as any 4G-compatible phone from any brand, can be repurposed.
Soft Toys for Children
If you’re able to make a few, we’d really appreciate it for our Children’s Packs!
Here’s what we need:

Each toy should be at least 25 cm so a child can cuddle it.

No hard parts (safe and fully soft).

Not too large, as they’ll go into a drawstring bag with other essential items.
