WHAT WE DO
Bayside Community Emergency Relief is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before.
We work on many exciting initiatives to help improve the lives of others and are very proud of the progress we continue to make. Learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work every day to promote positive change.
BCER, founded by Deb Brook in 2020, is a grassroots charity formed from the remarkable spirit of community during the January 2020 bushfires in Victoria. Our initial start was through a humble social media group that mobilised the local community, successfully providing a massive amount of community-funded essential aid to those impacted by the wildfires and support for animal sanctuaries in crisis. We understand that people often want to help in an emergency, but are not sure how to. Our model empowers individuals to contribute essential items quickly and efficiently, ensuring they reach those in need without delay. Together, we have made a significant positive impact to those that are in crisis, helping thousands of people as well as wildlife.
As a registered charity we are fully transparent & accountable. We follow strict charity regulations and there is a vast amount of work that goes on away from social media.
Our team comprises of a board, committee and a healthy, constantly growing volunteer base.
Our Secretary ensures we follow governance procedures and handles annual reporting to official government regulators. Our Treasurer oversees our accounting software, ensuring our financials are accurate and prepared for audits, maintaining a high standard of financial integrity and transparency. We focus more on requesting donations of specific goods but due to the volume of aid we need to supply, we also require funds to purchase items that aren’t donated. ALL monetary donations are made via approved charity donation platforms. All monetary donations of $2 or more to BCER are TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
In the case of our grants won, we also complete acquittal forms outlining where every cent has been spent.
Our robust volunteer database and volunteer army help sort & attend packing sessions. We maintain full transparency. Counting of items is done by several people & photographically documented & posted online. Where we also post proof of delivery to the many organisations we support.
We are fortunate to not only have the support of our amazing community but are also backed numerous businesses and government authorities. We have this much-appreciated support as our model works time & time again with well over $1 million in urgently needed aid including thousands of comfort packs delivered since conception.
Our virtual doors are always open & we encourage people to join in where they would like to help. We encourage everyone to share our main Facebook group where the bulk of the action takes place. Please follow to be informed our Fundraiser projects, Auctions and callouts for volunteers and donations. The more members we have the more our community can help.
We proudly undertake hundreds of initiatives each year. Please visit our Facebook group to see more of what we do.
